Tyson Evans is the chief product and brand officer at ProPublica where he oversees teams working on product, design, technology, communications, events and audience efforts.
He worked for 14 years at The New York Times where he had wide-ranging responsibilities across journalism, product development, operations, strategic planning, data analysis, people management, business development, budgeting and audience development.
At The Times, was a founding member of the newsroom strategy team, co-authored the “2020 Report” on the future of The Times’s newsroom. He served as the first director of strategy for Times Opinion and, as a senior product manager, launched a new, cross-functional team focused on building trust and credibility.
He started his career at The Times as a deputy editor of the interactive news desk, building data-driven web apps on deadline. He has taught at Columbia University, The New School and Stanford's d.school. He is a past-president of the Society for News Design, which champions visual journalism, and his work from The Times and the Las Vegas Sun has been recognized by SND, ONA, IRE, Editor & Publisher, J-Lab and The Webbys.
